  • Maintain flexibility and control in costs: Adapt to ever-changing needs whilst maintaining low costs. You can continue to automatically scale with Pay-as-you-go or switch to Subscription tiers based on your usage
  • Provide freedom to experiment: Every API management use case is different and with Pay-as-you-go you can experiment with new use cases by unlocking value provided by Apigee without a long term commitment

Enabling Pay-as-you-go for Apigee

Intro to Pay-as-you-go

Introduction to Apigee Pay-as-you-go (PayG) offering allows for customers to pay by consumption instead of a subscription license.

Covers the use case differences between Pay-as-you-go and Subscription for Apigee X.

Pay-as-you-go Prerequisites

Requirements for enabling Pay-as-you-go for Apigee X.

Create a GCP Project

Description - 1 minutes

From the Google Cloud Console, the user will create a new GCP project,  and select a billing account.

Open Apigee X Setup Wizard

Description - .5 minutes

From within the Google Cloud Console, the user will enter Apigee X in the search and select Apigee X to go to the product.  From the introduction page the user can then select the button Set Up Apigee.

Setup IAM Permissions

Description - 80 minutes

Before initiating the Apigee X Setup Wizard, permissions must be set. The user is walked through the IAM permissions that must be set.

Choose Pricing Plan

Description - .5 minutes

Before setting up an organization the user must select a payment plan. The three options; PayG, Evaluation and Subscription allow the user pay depending on the companies financial needs.

Enable GCP APIs

Description - 1 minutes

This video covers the GCP APis required to be enabled in the GCP console in order for Apigee X to function. The Apigee Wizard will do the provisioning automatically.

Create Apigee X Organization

Description - 3.5 minutes

This section covers the creation of the Apigee organization. The creation of the organization also creates the Apigee Control Plane, and allows the user to create proxies.

Review Apigee X Organization Control Plane

Description - 1 minutes

Once an orgranization is created, you can now review the functionality of the Apigee Control Plane. This allows you to review all assets, even though there is no runtime instances.

Setup Networking

Description - 3 minutes

This section covers the Apigee X configuration of a service networking.

Setup Network Peering Ranges

Description - 2 minutes

Once the general networking capabilities are set, the user must next setup the Reserve Peering Ranges.

Review Networking Changes

Description - 2 minutes

Once all networking configurations of peering networking is set, you can now review the changes to confirm the changes.

Setup Runtime Instance

Description - 4 minutes

In this session, the user will be defining where the runtime cluster will be executing. The user will be selecting the region, IP networking specifics, and encryption key for managing the data executed by the runtime.

Review Runtime Instance

Description - 2.5 minutes

In this session, the user will review the configuration of the runtime instances created in the prior session. The user can review the instance details from the Apigee X control plane the instance details.

Setup Environment

Description - 2.5 minutes

Once the runtime is defined, the user can now create/define the environments associated to the runtime. The user will become familiar to an environment group and hostname definitions.

PayG Gateway Nodes

Description - 3.5 minutes

The last part of the Apigee X PayG setup is the gateway nodes. This is specific to PayG and represents scalability based on consumption. Users are educated on pricing implications for autoscaling gateway nodes and network charges in this session.

Review Environment

Description - 1 minutes

In this session, the user will review the configuration completed by the setup wizard and review the environment details associated to the instance

Description - .5 minutes

In this session, the user will now determine user access to the Apigee X services. The user is provided with 2 options; No internet and Internet access.

External Access Resources

Description - 1 minutes

The second option in Access Routing is external network access or Internet access. In this session the user is demonstrated the assets that are created by the wizard to enable internet access.

Why Is Instance Group Needed

Description - 1 minutes

One of the key assets create is a VM instance group. This session covers what i created in the instance group, its role, and why it is required.

Description - 1 minutes

The last part of the Instance Group is the subnet definitions, and SSL certificates required for all the components to communicate securely.

Review External Access Resources

Description - .5 minutes

The last part of the Instance Group is the subnet definitions, and SSL certificates required for all the components to communicate securely and the wizard creating all these assets for internet access.

Review Instance Group

Description - 1 minutes

In this session, while the wizard is created all the assets, the user can review what is being created by going to the instance group in the Google console.

Review Global Load Balancer

Description - .5 minutes

In this session, while the wizard is created all the assets, the user can review what is being created by going to the load balancers in the Google console and review the properties of the new global load balancer.

Review SSL Certificate

Description - .5 minutes

In this session, while the wizard is created all the assets, the user can review what is being created by going to the SSL certificates associated with the global load balancer in the Google console and review the status of the SSL certificate.

Create DNS A Record

Description - 1.5 minutes

In this session, while the wizard is created all the assets, the user can will create a DNS A record in Cloud DNS to allow for traffic to be routed from the global load balancer to the instance group.

Final Steps

Description - .5 minutes

In the session, the user reviews all the resources create by the wizard and successful completion of the environment for PayG.

Deploy Helloworld Test API Proxy

Description - 1 minutes

In this session, the environment is completed, and the final step is to deploy a sample API to test that everything is working fine. From the wizard, the user will push the Deploy API button.

In this session, the user will review the sample API deployed and assets created with it.

In this session, the user is ready to test the API. The user will first validate that the DNS A record was completed. From the wizard, the user will select the curl command and test from a browser.
